The new view

It rains everyday. Sometimes in thunderous downpours but mostly in soothing lullabies. And when the dark clouds puff and rumble their way down, the coconut trees dance with a new-found greenness. For my green-deprived eyes, this is sheer visual poetry and much more when I realize that all this is happening when I'm still living in a big, bustling city. In India.
Of course there are the ubiquitous sky-hugging buildings too, that stand so assertively punctuating the green patch. Those rectangular dots of concrete, when strung together, that map the oxymoronic facade of this city. But on my side of the world here, unmindful of the cacophony of an always-on-its-toes city, the trees win. And so does the sky.

  1. Having just read your two previous posts I am very happy to see the view with the green! I hope this new nest/aerie will be a good place for you. Will you be able to settle there for a while?

    1. Thank you so much for the encouraging words. The previous post was written from a claustrophobic hotel room, which probably explains the concrete-scape. It has been a month and a little more in the new apartment and thanks to the balcony vistas it offers (the above picture) it almost feels like home now. We've decided to adopt this city as 'our place' in this country unless something drastic comes our way or let's say until another project abroad happens.
And you are right, it's a mixed bag for now; hoping to sort out the odds soon.

Hope things are good at your end. xx

  2. Hello Suman,

And, through your eyes and your words we enter into the other worldliness that is India to us too.

Green is such a precious commodity in a city, especially one where sleep never seems to take place. You seem to have learned how to live life at a rather gentler pace from your frenetic surroundings and breathing in the green must surely be part of the secret of your success.

It all sounds as if you are settling into your new home well. We trust that you are happy and content.

    1. Dear Jane and Lance,

Thank you so much for your wonderful compliments. How they make my day!

Yes, since I cannot do much about the city, I try to create my own 'zen zones' (I love the alliterative ring to that!) wherever I go. It helps to numb the din. Well, for a while at least. And true, there's nothing like having a spot of green to wake up to.
Settling in seems like a work-in-progress for now. But we'll be there soon!

Have a good week ahead. xx

  5. It’s good that the city offers a gentler view than nothing but concrete and traffic, so soothing for the spirit and good for the soul.

I hope you can create an oasis which pleases you.
