A good cappuccino to beat the monotony of grocery shopping, creamy pistachio kulfi with friends well past midnight, a hearty Sunday read from Gulzar's "Neglected Poems".
Quiet times, content times. The time to just be, when everything else around recedes into a blurry, oblivious distance. Another new week waits at the door impatiently, to give way to yet another whirlwind of routines and rules. But not today. Let the day be. Just be.
A few favourite lines from one of the "neglected" poems:
'You gave me the earth
On which I could build
A home good enough
for you to live in;
Come, when you find
time from all your
other chores
Maybe on some
"weekend", come!'
~ Gulzar (Translated by Pavan K. Verma)
This poem is beautiful ! Poetry and pistachio kulfi ! It sounds great. A perfect weekend with time to read, to rest, to eat with friends !
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you liked the poem, Celine. He is one of my most favourite Urdu poets.
DeleteI will immediately google Kulfi!
ReplyDeleteI loved the poem. I spent the afternoon kayaking, just for the pleasure. It was odd to do something just because - not for exercise or to teach someone - not to go somewhere or provide an experience for a guest. I kayaked for the pleasure of it - what a concept!
Kayaking! Wow, that sounds like a perfect end of summer afternoon to me.
DeleteAny news on the kulfi? I'm sure you'd get it in any Indian restaurant in Vancouver. I promise, you'll be delighted.
Leave the Kulfi. Suman, that plate is sheer poetry!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely comment, Vrinda. I am a sucker of anything and everything paisley, and so the plate. :-)
DeleteGulzar has always been my favorite. His selection of unusual words are most unique in our times. He is a treat. By the way Suman, I feel you have the luxury of reading beautiful books. Keep it up.

Ditto my feelings, regarding Gulzar. How effortlessly and convincingly he describes the many faces of life.
DeleteThank you for the lovely compliment but really, I'm just a book lover, and more than that a hoarder! :-)
Quiet times, content times...just two words but did full justice to express your weekends..will not say anything...let your words be, just be..
ReplyDeleteThank you, kind sir. Or Umesh, if I may?! ;-)
DeleteYes indeed, my favourite kind of weekend. I too have spent yesterday afternoon reading poetry.
ReplyDeleteGulzar is new to me, somebody to explore I think.
Afternoons and poetry have that special connection, something like they are made for each other.
DeleteGulzar is a MUST explore, methinks and the best part is his poetry collections are available on Amazon.
Hello Suman
ReplyDeleteWhat a delicious treat coffee, poetry and kulfi. Life is good.
Have a wonderful weekend
Helen xx
