Night bazaar

Another revisiting, another retelling.
Another attempt at unearthing the familiar, at walking the beaten path.

The night bazaar at Shilparamam. An enchanting heaven for all art and craft lovers. A weekly pilgrimage it was, once upon a time. A forever coming together of artists from all corners of the country. A perfect microcosm of 'unity in diversity'. The midnight air swollen with nocturnal blooms. Sprinklers stirring the tired, sleepy earth. Ah, that intoxicating, balmy scent! Deserted shops, many closed. Murals reciting pages from mythology, stray terracotta urns, familiar paintings of alluring village women, Rajasthani sequin work, Kashmiri beaded beauties, marble work from Agra. There's more to this place, I know.
A kaleidoscope of colours and creativity. Daylight will tell more stories, weave more magic. I know. I know them all too well.

I will be back. Soon. To the well-trodden ruts, once again.

  1. Hello Suman

Shilparamam sounds enchanting and I love the thought of a night market, it sounds so much more intesting to day time.

Were you tempted?Did you add to your collection?

Hope you have a delightful weekend

    1. Hello Helen! Yes, a night market has it's own charms, the quietude and allure of the time in particular. Unfortunately, most of the shops were closed, which makes me ever more determined to visit the village real soon. May be I will post a picture or two of the loot then!

Hope you are enjoying your days in Ireland.

  2. Hello Suman:
The thought of going to a Night Bazaar has a wonderfully exotic feel to it. There must surely be something very special about all these beautiful things lit up in the darkness and we are certain that we should love it all.

Such a perfect slogan 'unity in diversity' for all these artists, each with his or her own particular skill, collected together under the night sky, their crafts bringing them together. Such a delightful idea.

    1. Hello Jane and Lance, I am sure you would love the night bazaar. And if you happen to find yourself in Hyderabad ever, I would love to give you a tour of the village.
The night sure creates a magical atmosphere, but it was quite unfortunate that almost all the shops were closed. I hope to share some views of the bazaar in all its splendour real soon.

    1. Hello Celine! Yes, it's all very, very magical. Also, this is the right place to shop anything and everything 'Indian' when you come here. And then you'll have a decent guide too, moi that is!

  4. Well trodden ruts? Maybe. Well trodden paths would be a better way to describe an amble through this fairyland of artistic expression.

  5. I'd love to walk through the night bazaar. The photos were lovely, but I didn't need them to imagine the delights - your words were enough!
