Getting away

"I'd like to get away from earth awhile
And then come back to it and begin over.
May no fate willfully misunderstand me
And half grant what I wish and snatch me away
Not to return. Earth's the right place for love:
I don't know where it's likely to go better."

~ Robert Frost, 'Birches'

Sometimes getting away is good. The kind where you remain in the same place and yet manage to escape the surrounding hullabaloo. Sometimes it becomes essential to turn away from the world in order to understand it better and be understood in return. Sometimes one needs to be like a tree, to allow oneself to be equally loved and ravaged by the seasons, and yet remain unfazed by it all. Sometimes one must get away, even if it is just for a tiny while.

  2. Hello Suman:
Just sometimes, as you suggest here, the world can be too overpowering so that we, as individuals, are in danger of losing ourselves amongst all of 'the sights that glitter'. Then is the moment to pause, to take time to reflect and, it is to be hoped, rediscover within ourselves those things which really matter.

    1. Hello Jane and Lance, you've expressed my predicament so very perfectly. I wholeheartedly agree regarding that essential pause, or else life would soon become one joyless, futile ride.

  3. I know those times. I can't get away easily, -far away - because of work, but I can get away at home. A walk on the beach, a fire, a closed door and an 'I'm not home if anyone calls' all do wonders and help refresh.

    1. I think that's the best kind of getting away. If only I had even an inch of your ponds and cedars, and the beach and the birds... Sigh!

  4. Dear Suman. I agree and I know those times too. It's essential to "escape" in order to understand what we really want and to be understood...
