Nostalgia

"Your memory is a monster; you forget - it doesn't. It simply files things away. It keeps things for you, or hides things from you - and summons them to your recall with will of its own. You think you have a memory; but it has you."

~ John Irving, A Prayer for Owen Meany

A terrible green. A never-ending, unfurling sea of green. On the wet, mossy branches of dark trees. A dewy carpet of newly sprung grass. As tiny throbs of life waiting to sprout on slippery, naked boughs. I miss that green. That quaking, trembling, ubiquitous green. That terrible, terrible green.

  1. I know that green - that black green, yellow green, damp green, fuzzy green and springy green. I'm not so fond of the slimy green or the slippery green - but in the end I'm always happy to see the green and breathe the clean, green air!

    1. And how I miss it all! Never thought it'll come down to this - the 'slimy' green that once upon a time used to be so monochromatic and mundane.. Guess it's all about changing perspectives, and the changing of hemispheres as well!

  2. Colours can be like sounds or smells, reminders of times gone by. I am sorry you miss what you once took for granted; isn’t it always so?

I wish I had a bit of green right now, normally I complain that it’s all green round here, relentlessly green.
